If scaled you can now just farm it with a FULL team (faster)

It's been my experience that when someone screams "noob" at you for selling something they considered overpriced are, in fact, the noobs and don't know what the hell they're talking about.

They arent. This is the new rarest drop in the game. That doesnt mean it cant be overfarmed... but the Ids is now the king of rarity in Guild wars.

Over-exaggeration, but okay.

I was wondering, taking a full group of heroes and henchies in normal mode would mean I have a very slim chance to get IDS? But if I took the same setup in HM, the chance might be better?

I wanted to do it with real players but don't know anyone who would go with me.

Yes this is the gist of what I was getting at. It seems logical that if overall drops are better on Hard Mode and the game now punishes undermanned groups one could conclude that a full (8 man) human PuG on Hard Mode would have the best possible chances of getting IDS now. The location and constant malestroming seemed fairly anti-invinci to me anyways...this just further cements the items relative difficulty to acquire.

I remember when i first farmed for the IDS, took group of 4 to 5 peoples and we made it to the cave. Took 2 to 3 tries to get IDS drop for us. But now a day, it would probably take a full group and some luck (maybe under 8 tries) to get it now.

Anti-invinci? I wanted one and didn't want to pay a high price, so I just played around with builds I thought would work. One of them was a Monk primary, invinci type build. Haven't tried it in hard mode yet, but I came up with builds for 2 different classes before HM. I'm not fantastic at builds either, so I'm sure there were tons of them out there.

I solo'd all the ice imps, trolls, golems, and that ele boss about 10 times before I finally got one to drop. Of course there were quite a few deaths at the beginning before I got the builds and timing down, but after a while you get used to it.

If it hasn't happened already, it's probably just a matter of time before someone comes up with a good HM solo build. If IDS's become extremely valuable I can almost guarantee it.

I think you're missing the point of the new coding (as its been disclosed) somewhat. Hard mode should have the best odds on dropping IDS out of both difficulties due to the drop buff. Loot scaling punishes solo invinci-builds because they are using 1 person in an 8 man zone.

Therefore your best possible odds at getting an IDS would be:

Hard Mode, Full 8 human team (hero/hench can't pick up IDS or see it)

I am not saying its impossible to do it other ways, I am saying hypothetically this scenario should produce the best odds of getting the drop. I would imagine that nonstop 50% speed buffed maelstroms would severely screw up an invincimonk. Nothing can handle nonstop interrupts and with a very large pack casting in near unstoppable succession and I think thats what you've got.

but I thought hard mode increases drops for purple and gold items?

this would make it less likely that the blue IDS would drop for you in hard mode than in normal mode

also, a full 8 man henchie/hero team is just as good as a full 8 man team... with the henchies, it "drops" for the henchies and you never see it, while with the human team, if it drops for someone else, you won't get it either.

3 things:

1) Maelstrom is AoE - you can let them cast it and move - if you remove the slow hex.
2) There are anti-interrupt skills that can be indefinitely maintained or are not interrupted by maelstrom themselves.
3) If you read the info carefully on HM drop updates, the solo farmer is still supposed to get better than 1/8 of the drops - whether it's true or not I cannot say.

If it drops from hero/hench you don't see it correct. The idea being the same as any team farm you go in to split the profits. With 7 other humans theres still no guarantee you will get the IDS but there are far greater odds that a human will get one, in fact if it drops its 100% likely a human will get it.

It would take a modified invinci build which has as of yet not been devised. This needs testing and is way off the original premise of this thread which was just about drops not builds.

Lets say the drop rate for an invinci solo is 3/8...thats still less than half of the original 8/8 but better than a 1/8 which is what you would get in a PuG. In this aspect you are correct. However to capture the other 5/8 drops you need a flushed out human team. Yes that means you have less overall chance of getting the IDS but should it drop there is a 100% chance it will go to someone. I suppose if the rate is really 3/8 and you ran 3 invicnimonks at once, the rate would be comparable.
